Fish Tails 9/15/21: Fish Tails — Aloha Seafood

FISH TAILS — HDS

  • Aloha! Not a lotta’ new & exciting news to report — just expecting an influx of orders from y’all right after you cash in your huge winnings on the low probability bets that you made on The GIANTS chances of making the 2021 playoffs!
  • This September opening for Local Wild King Salmon is a bust so far — windy conditions & no bite — methinks that the fish, which should be in their final weeks of fattening up before their journeys up the rivers to their spawning grounds, somehow sense that there are no rivers & creeks to go “home” to (due to the drought), so they’ll spend another year at sea doing what Salmon do.  Plenty of our Farm’d SALMON avail, incl CANADIAN ATL, “LOCH DUART” ATL, NZ KINGs x2, & “LOCH ETIVE” STEELHEAD.
  • Here’s one you’ll like: We are OUT of Fzn Hamachi Fillets, which were 5+ lbs each, so too big for a lotta’ ya’ to deal with anyway, … but we now have Fzn KAMPACHI Fil, also high-quality/sashimi-quality, only about 2.5# ea, and cheaper too! Try it, and send us your feedback.
  • Fresh MAHI-MAHI again this week … Fresh CKD OR SHRIMPMEAT coming in … AK & LOCAL HALIBUTNO True Cod, Maybe on BLACK COD, YES on ROCK & LING COD …  PETRALE SOLE … Our Bass this week is SNOOK (ROBALO) from Panama … BRONZINI … Fresh AHI may be a problem this week; But good on TOMBO, SWORDFISH, YELLOWTAIL JACK OYSTERS/CLAMS/MUSSELSDUNGENESS CRABMEAT, and two cheaper alternatives — BLUE CRAB BACKFIN-MEAT & FZN ROCK/JONAH CRABMEAT … A little more below, Updated & Attached Price-List, Let’s GO GI-Ants!
  • We also have the 10/20 size of HOKKAIDO DRY-PACK SCALLOPS available once again, joining our usual inventory of U/15s & U/10s.
  • Here’s the current status of our inventory of “Del Pacifico” MEX’N BLUE PRAWNS51/60 P&Ds; 31/40 P&Ds, now in 8-oz “retail-pack” units; and 21/25 P&D Tail-ON, 5# blocks.
  • In da’ Freezer: 8 items in Bristol’s “My Fish Dish” line … Also in da’ Freezer: SMOKED SALMON TRIMMINGS … VANA (#2-grade UNI) … SK-OFF & BLO SASHIMI-QUALITY ALBACORE LOINS … FRIES w/EYES (IQF LAKE SMELT) … IQF U/10 SCALLOPS & PERUVIAN BAY SCALLOPS … HAMACHI COLLARS-(KAMA) … CHILE-BASS COLLARS … IQF SARDINES … A screamin’ deal, and a Great Poke item is Blanched OCTO LEGS/TAKO … AHI POKE CUBES … “Asian” CALAMARI TUBES & TENTACLES … And … GIDNEY LOBSTER SPLITS are a North American (Canada, Maine) Lobster Chix, split in half, blanched, then Tail & Claw & Knuckle Meat removed, which is then stuffed back into the half-shell. About 5-oz net, then IVP (individually vacuum-packed). $36 per lb, so about $12 per each, which works out to be less than LIVE LOBSTERS, LOB TAILS, or LOBSTER-MEAT.

Fish Tails 8/24/21: Fish Tails!

Who’s ready for some “Tail”? Feelin’ pretty lazy today, so a simple copy & paste of the food-service version is what you’re getting, see below. And we’re still looking — if your husband or boyfriend or both of them are thinking about a job in the fish biz, tell ’em to give us a call!
FISH TAILS — HDS

  • There’s been a coupla’ inquiries already — Yes, Aloha Seafood will be CLOSED on Monday, Sept. 6th for Labor Day — that’s not this Monday, but rather the following Monday  — so load up on Fri/Sat for that holiday weekend. And let’s hope that there’ll be some Local King Salmon — next opening starts Sept 1st, runs all thru Sept. Currently NONE available as we’re in a closure period. Lotsa’ NZ “BIG GLORY BAY” KINGS to get you through.
  • More real nice BLACK COD and real nice LOCAL HALIBUT this week.  As is the case all over the world, not enough manpower to staff the processing facilities up north, so we’re getting a larger percentage of Whole PETRALE, which we cut here at our facility, compared to pre-cut Pet Fillet, with a price bump as well, so there you have it. AK HALIBUT is up too, could be because the Hake fishery (cheap Cod alternative, not popular here) is now open. SoCAL HAL also avail, also with another price hike. ROCK & LING & TRUE COD.
  • How ’bout a price dip? — anybody notice that ATL SALMON pricing has dropped a bit?
  • Keepin’ it sorta’ local — YELLOWTAIL JACK should be noticed by more of ya’ — versatile, firm & meaty, from SoCal/Baja, and it’s one of the cheapest Wild fillets that’s available.  The Local ALBACORE are still runnin’ too.  FRESH COOKED OR SHRIMPMEAT coming in on Thurs.
  • DUNGENESS CRABMEAT still at an all-time high, AND there may be some FROZEN ROCK/JONAH CRABMEAT real soon!!
  • And there should also be some U/15 Domestic Gulf White PRAWNS real soon too — 16/20s have been the Largest Shell-On Prawns that we’ve had since the depletion of all of our “Del Pacifico” Sh-On specs.  Still sitting on (hardly any) 31/40 “Del Pacifico” P&Ds, and plenty of their 51/60 P&Ds.
  • Availability of ever-increasing-in-popularity Frozen AHI Products are gonna be a problem real soon. Same ol’ Covid story — plant closures, labor shortages, backlog of containers in ports waiting to be unloaded, producers can’t book space on container ships, embargoes, etc. We’ll be completely out of SAKU BLOCKS within a week or sooner, and our POKE CUBES and our Skin-OFF, BLO AHI LOINS aren’t far behind.
  • “The Town Dock” brand of Calamari T&T may still be a month or more away from another appearance, but we do have “Yelin” T&T (Asian), both 3/5 & 5/8, and supply seems to be stabilizing lately.
  • AHI / TOMBO / SWORDFISH / CORVINA  / maybe some WHITE C-BASS too /  U/15 & U/10 HOKKAIDO DRY-PACK SCALLOPS (prices up again, imagine that!) / MUSSELS … OYSTER & CLAM situation seems to be improving, (but Aug & Sept are still months to be vigilant about Shellfish)
  • Looking for a heckuva deal? — the GIDNEY LOBSTER SPLITS are a North American (Canada, Maine) Lobster Chix, split in half, blanched, then Tail & Claw & Knuckle Meat removed, which is then stuffed back into the half-shell. About 5-oz net, then IVP (individually vacuum-packed). $33 per lb, so $10/12 per each, which works out to be less than LIVE LOBSTERS, LOB TAILS, or LOBSTER-MEAT.
  • 8 items in Bristol’s “My Fish Dish” line … Also in da’ Freezer: SMOKED SALMON TRIMMINGS … VANA (#2-grade UNI) … FZN PIKE FIL … FRIES w/EYES (IQF LAKE SMELT) … IQF U/10 SCALLOPS & PERUVIAN BAY SCAL … HAMACHI FIL & COLLARS-(KAMA) … CHILE-BASS COLLARS … IQF SARDINES … A screamin’ deal, and a Great Poke item — Blanched OCTO LEGS/TAKO … more
  • Reminder 1) It’s OK to include the eMail addresses that have one of our names in it, BUT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ALWAYS INCLUDE orders@alohaseafood.net when eMailing/replying with us.

  • A new item to look into are our “GIDNEY” SPLIT LOBSTERS — these are a 1#er Lobster, split in half, blanched so the meat can be removed, then the Tail & ClawMeat & the KnuckleMt are placed back into the half-shell. $37 per lb on the Price-List, which is about 3 pcs, and it works out much cheaper than any other Lobster product.
  • Now offering a line of eight of Bristol’s “MY FISH DISH”, a 7-oz thaw, bake, & enjoy seafood entree — GARLIC/HERB/BUTTER SHRIMP & SWEET CHILI-SAUCE SHRIMPBlackened-&-Smoked Butter SCALLOPS or ATLANTIC COD or WILD SOCKEYE SALMON; and Sesame-&-Seaweed Teriyaki on the same three fish. Fish Tails 07/06/2021: July News From Aloha Seafood

FISH TAILS — HDS

  • Hi y’all, hope ya’ had a real nice 4th, here’s a real close copy of the same “Fish Tails” that we just sent out to our Food-Service customers, have a look-see.  We have a few trays of FRESH Local UNI (Sonoma coast), hoping for a few more later this week. And we still have some Local CA KING SALMON available, and there will be NO more new ones coming in for the remainder of July.
  • FARMED SALMON:  As Canadian ATL SAL prices stay so high, you can now go with the Premium ‘LOCH DUART’ ATL SAL at a pretty similar price point.
  • SHRIMP:  We are OUT of Stock on 16/20 P&Ds (Asian Whites)21/25s (slightly smaller) are available & 13/15s (slightly larger) should be available by Thursday. On our Premium “DEL PACIFICO- Suripera” WILD MEX’N/Pacific BLUE PRAWNS, we have ONLY  U/12 & U/15 & 21/25 HLSO (Headless/Shell-On) AND 26/30 & 51/60 P&Ds until the new season/new production in late 2021. Also avail are a few other sizes/specs/brands to fill in the voids. Oh by the way, just received a surprise visit (of just a few hundred lbs) of Real ROCK SHRIMP!
  • CRABMEAT:  Very limited production on Dungeness, rationing continues, price is highest it’s ever been. Ever. Also, Very Very Low on BLUECRAB BACKFIN MEAT, and that price is gonna jump close to 100% higher if/when the next shipment arrives.
  • SCALLOPSNO more of ‘Bristol’s 10/20 DRY-PACK HOKKAIDO SCALLOPS are avail, it may be another month or so. Supplies of U/15s & U/10s appear to be OK for now, and the FZN IQF U/10s are significantly cheaper! And some more FRESH! PERUVIAN BAY SCALLOPS later this week!
  • AHI POKE CUBES: “Krimson” brand coming tomorrow! Only 40 cases, it’ll go bye-bye in a hurry, price is up, and we’re still trying to source a reliable secondary brand. Our AHI SAKU BLOCKS and the FZN Sk-OFF & BLO AHI LOINS are real nice subs, and an opportunity to hone your knife skillz.
  • Still gonna have some problems with Shellfish from up North (especially MANILA CLAMS) due to the heat up there, AND we’ll have a few SAVORY CLAMS, as we try to build up some weight on our Clam selections.
  • SQUID: Some FRESH SQUID this week; the IQF WHOLE Monterey ‘Bono’ brand is avail, but low, and there is ZERO T&T, R&T, or TUBES Only available. Just received news that “The Town Dock” brand of 5/8 T&T – (Asian) could be in port late this week, and in our Freezer by sometime next week!
  • SPANISH/MEDITERRANEAN OCTOPUS:  Price up. But hey, our Blanched OCTO LEGS/TAKO are still a screamin’ deal! And they’re a Great Poke item.
  • LOBSTER MEAT:  Similar pricing to CRABMEAT. Ouch. How ’bout IQF SHRIMPMEAT? And trying to get some more Fresh SHRIMPMEAT in for later this week…
  • FRESH KAMPACHI  /  AK HALIBUT by Thurs, LOCAL & SoCAL HAL avail.  /  PETRALE by Thurs  /  BASS = CORVINA, BAQUETTA/MEX’N GRPR, & WHT. C-BASS  /  ROCK, LING, TRUE, BLACK COD  /  SWORDFISH, TOMBO, AHI  /  Lots More …
  • A new item to look into are our “GIDNEY” SPLIT LOBSTERS — these are a 1#er Lobster, split in half, blanched so the meat can be removed, then the Tail & ClawMeat & the KnuckleMt are placed back into the half-shell. $37 per lb on the Price-List, which is about 3 pcs, and it works out much cheaper than any other Lobster product.

Fish Tails 05/25/21: 1-yr Anniversary … Aloha Seafood

FISH TAILS — HDS

  • Looking for a show of hands if you had an order in for last year’s Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. I know there’s a bunch of you, because it would’ve been our busiest day since the onset of quarantining. As a reminder, you didn’t get your delivery that day because Pier 45 was Up in Flames. The Fire has since been extinguished, so if you need some fishys this Saturday (let’s include Friday too), AND if you had an order placed for a year ago, then let us know, and we will WAIVE your Delivery Fee. (cheaters Will Be Caught and Prosecuted — we have saved every work-order from that day). And because of Memorial Day, Aloha Seafood Will Be CLOSED on Monday, May 31st.
  • Note that Farm’d Atlantic SALMON prices have soared recently, and another bump expected soon. Reason is production problems in Chile due to warm water and algae blooms, (it happens a lot down there), meaning that Canada has to fill the void for huge customers such as China and Walmart, creating a shortage for us lowly customers, so the price goes up. But it also narrows the gap btwn those and our “PREMIUM” Salmons, such as ‘LOCH DUART’ & ‘ORA-KING’ & ‘BIG GLORY BAY’ KINGs.
  • And DUNGENESS CRABMEAT is pretty popular with y’all — Price Up on that one too.
  • A few lbs of FRESH COOKED OR SHRIMPMT came in, and we’re hoping for more.  FRESH Monterey SQUIDLocal (Monterey, Half-Moon Bay) WILD KING SALMON.  And a lot more of da’ stuff that you’ve come to know & love … some re-‘Tail’ below, and Prices attached …
  • Still trying to navigate all this upheaval in our industry around availability and costs. As mentioned, you home-delivery folks still get a great deal compared to regular retail pricing, but this upheaval is a pretty big deal to the food-service sector.
Seems perfect for all of you HDS customers. Give ’em a try!
  • “Del Pacifico” Suripera Blue Prawns are absolutely da’ Best Prawn/Shrimp that can be found. Currently, Disney Corp is their top customer … let’s see if we can join that Mickey-Mouse outfit at the top of the list!
  • Some faves from da’ freezer —  HAMACHI COLLARS / KAMA (2+ lbs per pkg); HAMACHI FILLET (about 5-lbs ea); CHILEAN C-BASS COLLARS … SPANISH OCTOPUS; FZN Cooked/Blanched OCTOPUS TENTACLES (TAKO) about 3# ea, from Hokkaido/Japan, a ‘Hot Special’ at $7.50 … AHI POKE CUBES; SALMON POKE CUBES; FZN ALBACORE LOINS; Sk-Off/BLO FZN AHI LOINS … IQF SMELT; IQF SARDINES; PERUVIAN BAY SCALLOPSOYSTER SPRING-ROLLS; Lots More …
  • Hey, I mentioned that we have a customer who presented their business on ‘Shark Tank’. They Got an Investment!! Check out the April 16th episode, company’s name is Truffle Shuffle.
  • Reminder 1) It’s OK to include the eMail addresses that have one of our names in it, BUT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ALWAYS INCLUDE orders@alohaseafood.net when eMailing/replying with us.

  • Two items jump out — FRESH NEW LOCAL WILD CA KING SALMON (from Monterey/Half Moon Bay). Just arrived, beauts, I think these fellas were swimming yesterday. Please don’t ask us to PBO, as that process makes for a lousy presentation on Wild Salmon.  And FRESH COOKED OREGON SHRIMPMEAT, first of the season, rated Green by MBAq SeaWatch, we prefer to sell it by the 5-lb tub, (though it may weigh only 4.75 lbs because this item gets nibbled on by us more than any other item). Buy a tub, portion & freeze for later.
  • We almost had some Uni last week for y’all, but we rejected it due to quality, and this week is too windy, but methinks we’re getting closer to some regularity. Stay tuned.
  • Hey, I mentioned that we have a customer who presented their business on ‘Shark Tank’. They Got an Investment!! Check out the April 16th episode, company’s name is Truffle Shuffle.
  • This new world order has got the Seafood industry in turmoil of the likes that I’ve never ever seen before. Limited availability, global shipping issues, gas, etc. have got everything going up in price. Maybe not such a big deal for you guys compared to the restaurant & hotel & catering businesses, because our prices to you are still well below typical retail prices when you compare apples-to-apples. Nevertheless, things have changed. Heck, it wouldn’t be surprising if I was told that the SF Giants have the best record in the NL after 30 games, but that may be a bit far-fetched, huh?
  • Don’t forget to call Mom, and if she’s in a faraway place with poor phone reception, then send out some sweet vibes.
  • Reminder 1) It’s OK to include the eMail addresses that have one of our names in it, BUT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ALWAYS INCLUDE orders@alohaseafood.net when eMailing/replying with us.

Fish Tails 4/13/21: TV Time … Aloha Seafood

FISH TAILS — HDS

  • Hey, any ‘Shark Tank’ fans out there? … We have a commercial customer called Truffle Shuffle whose business model is a very unique and fascinating home meal “experience”, (sometimes featuring Seafood which they’ve sourced from us), … And They Are Going to be Featured on This Week’s Episode of “Shark Tank”, Friday Evening, April 16th, on ABC. Check ’em out!
  • Also, getting a lotta’ questions from y’all wanting to know our take on the recent Netflix program, “Seaspiracy”… Here is a very powerful, well-researched, and professional rebuttal to that program, which we encourage you to take a look at. https://sustainablefisheries-uw.org/science-of-seaspiracy  Our overall take on this sort of thing boils down to three things: One, the Seafood industry really needs a stronger voice/stronger lobby so that this sort of negative publicity (which occurs too often) blows over. (Mad cow disease was short-lived news, and you rarely hear about the mis-treatment of domestic poultry & cattle). Two — in reality, the biggest problem that the Seafood industry faces is that people don’t eat enough of it. And lastly, when faced with a decision, isn’t it better to be aware of all sides of an issue, so that you can make an intelligent choice based on knowledge, and be comfortable with it?
  • Reminder that Aloha Seafood is back to being OPEN on SATURDAYS again, so you’re all lookin’ at a 6-days-a-week delivery option from your favorite fish-monger!
  • OK, something new! — We’re getting in some FRESH KAMPACHI, farmed, sashimi-quality, closely related to Yellowtail Jack/Hamachi but smaller fillets than the Fzn HAMACHI that you guys buy a lot of.
  • More stuff this week — SoCAL HAL, AK HAL by Thurs, CORVINA, WHITE C-BASS, ROCK & TRUE & BLACK COD, (NO Skrei — over for this year), SWORD, TOMBO, YELLOWTAIL JACK, AHI by Thursday, SALMON x 6, BRONZINI, More, Even More, Lots More … Some re”Tail” below … EAT FISH!

Fish Tails 3/30/21: Pranks & New Hours … Aloha Seafood

FISH TAILS — HDS

  • Aloha once more, Glad to be able to inform y’all that we’re back to being OPEN on SATURDAYS again, starting this week, so you’re all lookin’ at a 6-days-a-week delivery option from your favorite fish-monger!  And more — we’re in an extremely rare week that includes four holidays  — the two obvious ones are Good Friday, (which was once a huge seafood-consuming day many years ago), and Easter, … and on Thursday, April 1st, it’s both Opening Day! and April Fools Day, which both need a little boost to be considered high-seafood-consumption days. Anyway, we’ve got some BOLIVIAN SEA BASS coming in this week, and if you order some, then we’ll know that you haven’t read this thing all the way ’til the end …
  • Lately, it seems like more changes than usual on the Price List — not in the right direction — so be aware of that. For instance, WE are now paying over $10 for LIVE Crabs — price up to you, but we just can’t lift it any higher to where we’d like our margins to be.
  • Popular items for that Easter Brunch include ALASKAN HALIBUT, SMOKED SALMON, any of our FRESH SALMON (6 of ’em), SKREI (NORWEGIAN ATL COD), SHRIMP/PRAWNS, IQF SHRIMPMEAT, CRABMEAT, LOBSTERMEAT, SCALLOPS, and da’ list goes on …
  • And a few we haven’t seen much of lately are set to make an appearance this week — HUACHINANGO! (Real MEX’N RED SNAPPERS), Local LING COD!, and YELLOWTAIL JACK.
  • Lots More including PETRALE SOLE, SoCAL & LOCAL HALIBUT … ROCK & TRUE & BLACK COD … SWORDFISH, MAHI, OPAH?, AHI, TOMBO … CORVINA, BRONZINI …
  • OK, lotta’ repeated stuff below this, but the reason I need to explain the piece about Bolivian Sea Bass to you rookies, sorry, I mean you home-chefs, is because you might just order some, not realizing that Bolivia doesn’t have fishing fleet, because it doesn’t have a coastline, it never did, and it won’t have one on April Fools Day either.    Gotcha’.    Happy Easter!
